The view from the pump house

is pretty sweet this morning...after posting this shot, my phone may have just breathed its last. so, don't worry if i don't respond to text messages, emails or phone calls...i'm just fine, i'm just more or less unplugged!

For the first time

Not riding my bike seems like a really good idea!

Ok so I am riding home in the coolness

Of the after 5pm shade...and the most painful burning begins on the backs of my calves and lower thighs...it felt like someone taking a match to my skin. I hurt so much I had to snap this shot to find it was only the sun radiating its 96 degree heat...

Spillway is quite a sight!

But almost as much water rolling off my forehead...

Shalom friends!

May you be blessed as you see the day to its proper end and see the smile of its going down--how whole it all is as you slip it into the archive of life where all our lived out days are lying together!

The Big Finish!

The Peloton Burger Is Here!!

As long as I am shooting upside down

What do you thing of this space that has been washed away under the trail?!?

The rimminess is a little over the top

I am considering sticker removal...maybe just taking off the letters and leaving the racing stripe??

Somehow from this angle

The reynolds wheels and yellow gp4k seem right at home. Slow but smooth even though the wheel looks pretty warped as pictured!

Have you ever tried...part one...

Before I biked to okabena and got myself lost in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire on pavement that seemed like cobbles, I rested at the cabin and I watched a nest being made in the bird house my best friend made for me as a coming alive gift when we departed the military! On it there are "the sayings"...of the time...for the first time now the house is a home to one of my favorite birds who has been teaching me his song! I found this mary oliver poem on our trip to maui and it reminded me of why we ride and encourage each other to be engaged in the flow of life...

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED To ENTER The LONG BLACK BRANCHES

Have you ever tried to enter the long black branches
of other lives--
tried to imagine what the crisp fringes, full of
honey,
hanging
from the branches of the young locust trees, in
early summer,
feel like?
do you think this world is only an entertainment for you?
Never to enter the sea and notice how the water divides
with perfect courtesy, to let you in!
Never to lie down on the grass, as though you
were the grass!
Never to leap to the air as you open your wings
over
the dark acorn of your heart!
No wonder we hear, in your mournful voice, the
complaint
that something is missing from your life!

Who can open the door who does not reach for the
latch?
Who can travel the miles who does not put one
foot
In front of the other, all attentive to what presents
itself
continually?
Who will behold the inner chamber who has not
observed
with admiration, even with rapture, the outer
stone?

Well, there is time left--
fields everywhere invite you into them.
And who will care, who will chide you if you
wander away
from wherever you are, to look for your soul?
Quickly, then, get up, put on your coat, leave your
Desk!
To put one's foot into the door of the grass, which
is
The mystery, which is death as well as life, and
not be afraid!
To set one's foot in the door of death, and be
overcome
with amazement!
To sit down in front of the weeds, and imagine
G-d the ten fingered, sailing out of His house of
straw,
nodding this way and that way, to the flowers of
the
present hour...

The waihee ridge trail

No bikes allowed!

We can all breath a sigh of relief!

The racing team has arrived...looking for a 3 hour and 30 minute time for the haleakala climb! I would have a chance if I had a better bike they tell me...

I admit--i can't ride under water...but

I did ride by a whale this morning! It was that wet?!?

I am beginning to understand

Why hawaii is the rainbow state...but even more amazing, is when it rains, you don't get wet and when the wind blows, it doesn't push against you...

City bikes rule

There's a frame builder on the island that puts together a great chopper-style road rig...guess how long the waiting list is!

A great meeting place on the descent

Kula lodge...I may want to see if they have long term housing! What a beautiful place. i only had to pass 5 cars on the return trip...they couldn't quite corner like you can on two wheels. lots of thumbs up and hang loose signs, friendly toots and plenty of cheering!...oh, and cars pulling over to let me pass. one guy who stopped called out and said,' hey, i just want to see how you do that fly around the corner thing you're doing'!

Beyond the volcano crater

The island of hawaii!

The haleakala summit

28 miles in 3 hours 15 minutes! I beat my support vehicle to the summit visitor's center...

Ok now this

Is the fun part!

What special preparation did I make

...For altitude??...

Uh oh -- 16 miles into it

I was to start here!
