Road Report: BEWARE

For those traveling on Hwy 4, look out for this creature. He was not afraid of the Suburban; not sure how he would engage cyclists! beware the wild woodchuck

today's twizzler rain ride: Not sure what was the best part??

The smell of spring, getting dropped on this climb, the taste of the rain or the freedom of being's ride was a healing balm to my spirit. Happy memorial day everyone!

Whatever is forseen in joy

must be lived out from day to day.

Vision held open in the dark

By our ten thousand days of work.

Harvest will fill the barn; for that

The hand must ache, the face must sweat.

And yet no leaf or grain is filled

By work of ours; the field is tilled

And left to grace. That we may reap,

Great work is done while we're asleep.

When we work well, a Sabbath mood

Rests on our day, and finds it good.

Since it IS bike to work month

And I delivered a baby at two in the morning...and I am riding a race bike as a commuter...and thursdays are breast cancer awareness day (pink shirt) for the network...and old guys wear bow ties...I thought I would celebrate a little -- It's a girl! it's a good thing i did...when i went in for rounds the four sisters were gathered around all dressed in pink gaurding their newborn sister and were only allowing people in pink to get near her. they were all wearing t-shirts that say girls rule--boys drool!

can't wait to see it!

i can't contain my enthusiasm for audrey's new sport bike...if she's half as happy with it as i am and rides it like i think she might...she could be riding this around as a naturalist or racing it on a cross course! check out for an update on the build!

Clinical rotation

Step 3! First was morning clinic...second was lunch at rabab's. Now a spin to the cabin to trim the grass!

Ever have one of those valve stems???

What do you use when nothing else works? My lezyne frame pump is better than my floor pumps in certain campus bikes...I now have a pressure gauge that goes to 8 bars! I know where to get one if you're in need!

nice to be taking in the sites

...he-shew and i had a chance to appreciate the methodist camp 'wild' turkeys. i later came across a gaggle of goslings. somehow the commute to work lately makes it seem like i'm just taking a brief rest between rides, cyclingthelakes!

The Speedvagen dodging thunderheads!

Staying ahead of 'the wall' of water is pretty good duty! Nice to be out on the old steel bikes when the lightening isn't striking all around! There's something pretty sweet about a stop at the pumphouse after completing a dry, warm and wind-free lap with the clouds looking this ominous...kari and I both took off our on the way out just past the pumphouse and she on the grade. I have pictures--but you're really going to have to beg me for them!

I guess you know you've found it--

When you can't ride because the sunset and a rainbow have stopped all traffic including cyclists! know you've found yourself in one of those thin places and moments loveall mentioned when the barrier between heaven and earth is transparent...unforgettable!

Notice anything new on the kirk?

It was high time for new brake pads...

Cyclingthelakes lost and found

Anyone have time trial guy's number? Unless someone else claims them -- I'm pretty sure they're his!

Even more awesome

Lilac season--can you smell the 28th street bloom?

My stating of the obvious

Honjo fenders are awesome!

Summer comes at last!

It just wouldn't/couldn't be summer without...DUKES! That's right health food lovers - Dukes, as of today, is open for business! And - new for 2011 - baby, momma and papa cakes at the Perk. Does it get any better?

The face of Duke's

The beautiful people of the camp invited me to lunch! I love summer--let the nutrition rounds begin in earnest!

No question about it

When it's's right! Let's roll!

As far as I am concerned

It's over...before I take off with the car for a long drive that puts the arione in the bermuda triangle of saddles--anyone have last rites??

Wonder if it is enforced?

Speed Trap? Better stay in small ring through these sections!

well, i think i have a new noon nutrition break on the big spirit loop!

i would be hard pressed to find a better lunch anywhere! wow...thanks for the great food, welcoming smiles and outstanding service.

Rabab is taking very good care of her cycling clientele! She makes a tasty giro lover's gyro!

What does a sun dog in spring mean

Counterclockwise lake laps until we get hammered by rain!?! Anyone getting out for a noon spin? I'll be out there to meet you on the road in about 15 minutes...then lunch at rabab's??

A shout out from the Bucksnort...for you Spidey!

Attention getting

Looks to me like the DNR and fire department are teaming up on another controlled burn. My guess: Jemmerson about you?

My Portable Thin Place

Minneapolis is amazing. Bob Trailers, squeaky chains, people on drop bars with backpacks, commuters, racers, kids... about any biker you can think of - I saw one. Trails and bike lanes everywhere and lots of places to explore.

One of our conference speakers referenced the Celtic idea of "Thin Places" which are places in the world where the gap between the Earth and the Kingdom seems almost transparent and God feels especially present. I don't think she is a cyclist or she would know that sometimes the thin place is not a destination, but the way you take the journey. My bike not only finds such places instinctively, it also seems to be one.

My thin place is blue and silver... yours?

Headed to the cabin

On my way to check on my birds...anyone want to join me for a big spirit loop??

not sure i can resist

wouldn't this make a killer commuter lid??

It's mornings like this morning

the lake keeps inviting us back! Not a breath of wind...simply breath-taking!
