Good news

The sky is clearing! We may soon see an end to the 35mph winds! -- so much for my wishful thinking...the skies may have cleared, but i'd say the winds are worse today...steady 30 mph with gusts to 40 or 50...what say you??

I have a question (or two) for you

What do you think of this cross stem...the fillets--the built in spacer/cable hanger system/drop cable stop?? Any guesses as to what color(s) it will be??

What is it about this picture

That makes me think kirk crosser!?!

No spring lake lap is complete

Without a romp through the outback!?!

I could hear your question already!

So how is the kirk in gravel and mud...dreamy!

There are days

When a 39-17 is the only gear you need and a freewheel's your best friend!

I think bikes are awesome!

bikes can change your entire perspective on transportation--cars, who needs one??

bikes can also turn your perspective on the weather completely upside down--pouring rain, can't wait to get out and try the new fenders?!?

On my first day without the suburban (campus cleanup mission) and no back up plan (empty garage)...the kirk really pulled through for me. Primarily because my mom was convinced i had too many bikes, the bike i was getting ready for today's ride was too big and 'dangerous looking' and that i couldn't possibly arrive at work, clean and dry, in a suit in the pouring rain...i rode the kirk to work today and arrived safe, warm, clean and dry! My only complaint??...mud flaps would really be a good idea--but how would have I appreciated them fully if I had started out with them and not known how much I could use them???

gull point chapel.jpg

Since she-shew mentioned the chapel stop...I wonder if a picture of 5 road bikes has ever been taken in the 60 year history of the memory lane trail!?! i can hear the lotr\gimli quote already...what madness drove them in there??

Is there a better feeling in the world??

Than being out with your best bike on the best day of spring there quite possibly ever was!?!
...and may i just say...big spirit counter clockwise was about as good as it gets fixed!

What could be better?? Surrounded by beautiful people

...fully enjoying this gorgeous day! Happy Easter friends... the hightlight for me was each of us enjoying something completely new to us. i have to admit it...prior to today, i had never before set my foot in the door at shucks: my new favorite stop on the west lake okoboji route! chime in for your favorite first from today's ride...

Happy Easter from the West Okoboji shore

May you be blessed with happiness, joy, love and peace! Let's ride together soon...

Honjo fenders

do you think i need mud flaps in order to complete the kirk single speed for rainy spring commutes... one of my real weaknesses is fender installation. wonder if it would help
to post a series of pictures -- a how not to -- if you will...

Webb women

Enjoying the grade! not enjoying the arione so much...the speedvagen changed partners three times to complete the lake lap and pass around the agony!

The family singers

Are equipped to spin...who rides which bike is the question!

How many more times

Will I have to wear these this spring?? Just the sight of them is really depressing!

The surest sign of spring

OK, I know it doesn't look or feel much like it yet but when you come home with worms on your downtube, it's only a matter of time before the sun is shining. Summer riding here we come!

Now that's what I'm talking about!

The ride to work is so brisk and beautiful...makes me feel kinda racy!

--and belligerent--refusing to wear my rain gear today!

April showers

i guess i've always thought of april showers as being rain showers...these snow showers are pretty but definitely make the conditions seem colder than they really are! i roasted at noon thinking i needed to dress like it's winter...

yesterday was one of those rare days

i spent considerably more time yesterday driving than riding. we went to the twin cities for a family lunch and then orchestra hall to take in a double mass performance to celebrate 150 years of music at luther college. during intermission i stepped outside and found this curbside bike dressed up with a very nice fixed gear tool! just in case you were curious, before the concert, i did happen to get around the block on my nephew's double double surly...what a nice ride--thanks levi--you made my day!

Coffee and chocolate rounds...

The lakes area route is hard to beat...inside loop...plenty of stops...great preparation for tour de kota don't you think!?!

Is there anything better

Than teasing tok about pie!?!

If there's interest in brunch??

Meet us at perkins while we warm our toes and fill our bellies!

As I was riding along: I saw the swans

But unfortunately was literally focused on myself.

They appeared Over the dunes, They skimmed the trees And hurried on

To the sea Or some lonely pond Or wherever it is That swans go,

Urgent, immaculate, The heat of their eyes Staring down And then away,

The thick spans Or their wings As bright as snow, Their shoulder-power

Echoing Inside my own body. How could I help but adore them? How could I help but wish

That one of them might drop A white feather That I should have Something in my hand

To tell me That they were real? Of course This was foolish.

What we love, shapely and pure, Is not to be held, But to be believed in. And they vanished, into the unreachable distance.

Mary Oliver: Evidence

Anyone braving the elements for a glimpse of the swans?? ...I have a feeling if we get ourselves out there, they will be out there, too!

So what do you do

When you don't feel like riding and it's time to go home??? I find a picture from a nice sunny day and pretend it's that nice out again...obtw, I finally re-wrapped llew's bar tape with the kelly bedford method! Do you think it's an improvement...or am I hopeless when it comes to taming the handlebra leather!?!

What I like most about rain rides

Is testing the gear! Not only was my short sleeve base layer dry under the espresso jacket but my phone stayed dry in my new espresso phone case! If you can't tell--it was a free sample of organic rainforest rhythms! How do you like that for poetry in motion!?!

Guess where I am, Spidey...can't find the pie!

Probably old news to some

But a good heads up to others...this is what the center lake cut-off looks like lately...stick to the parking lot for now!

Really now

1) Can you sport too many shades of green in spring??

2) what do you think of my KOP??...and how much do you think KOP matters...

I thought I heard a gunshot

And was relieved to find a blown tire that could easily be changed out...i hope she-shew left happier than it seems pictured here!?! Enjoy your lake lap...

unfortunately, all i could think was: Maybe it's time

To get the kayaks out!

Emerson bay

Picture perfect place to dictate today's progress notes, don't you think?!?

April rounds

Are in the books. When I come here to rest I wonder if llew will keep me company?

Let's have a shout out: Wheeler woods

a wildlife refuge off the beaten track...with such a choice cycling name--

please see me for a route map!
