Spidey's cycling tip #5! -- Eyes on the road--

24 hours later I found my foe! Yesterday in the middle of tailwind bliss the unfriendly sound of rock on rim was heard...this is the obstacle that had escaped my notice but nonetheless was responsible for llew's first flat. I would have guessed the rock was mouse-sized but then I am prone to exaggeration...maybe more like nickel-sized hail, perhaps?? the ring of power is included as a size reference and for added interest/comment induction!

Llew loves the remoteness of the corridor

And of course
The colors of it's artwork!

Eat to Ride!

It's supposed to be decent Sunday and we think it's time the Peleton gets rolling! Let's celebrate a wonderful wedding being done, the beginning of May and whatever else with a ride and then some dessert at the Loveall mansion. Thinking something chocolate with ice cream but who knows, maybe the tall one will whip up something new or maybe more sweet potato souffle!
Who is in and what time?

Llew Taking The I.F. Challenge

Since there haven't been any favorite bike by favorite tree posts. Maybe we need to start out with a post at the mansion while the tulips last! Ready, set, go! They might even feed you sweet potatoe pie...

Nice light to pedal or paddle by!?!

Not sure it captures the moment...but night riding is way under rated!

Jane would like to point out there hasn't been enough red lately on the blog

...But 'red tide' this early in the season is a little 'red'iculous. wonder what I will be seeing in the office this week?!? Bonus points for the skin condition...and high praise for the name of the organism -- in fresh or in salt water -- just for the record...i thought the organism was diphyllobothrium latum. even though that is fun to say--there's a better and right answer out there!

The shop ride--

Heads out
Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

I love morning rounds...

...Slow, steady and taking in the sites!
here's a word from a scrap of paper i found in my desk once back to the office
--notes i had taken during a hospice meeting 3 years ago--

as you find your own way
on this pathway called life
and encounter dismay
amid pain, peace and strife,
you may need your eyes closed
so you can fully see
what others have supposed
is impossible. be
sensitive to the still,
small voice and you will hear
the Spirit speak God's will
and draw near.
just remember one thing:
what seems like shadow, is shelter from God's wing.

Simply Beautiful

Beautiful, majestic, an amazing mixture of color and glory, the wonder of creation reaching to meet the sun... and Jane says there are flowers hidden somewhere in the picture too but I can't find them.

It's official - Spidey has a new favorite!

In an unprecedented move, today Spiderman asked if we could stop mid-lake loop so he could make a bike switch. Woody literally got the hook and the Yellow LLew came out. I'm a little stunned. The goat looked none-too-happy to be hanging upside down as the yellow rocket got the nod.

Your favorite bike by your favorite turtle?

Llew is in sharp contrast to "the old goat"...
ahhehm! llew would also like that nice green stripe back!
...thank you very much...

"Your favorite bike and your favorite tree"

You're going to have to humor him, but woody wants to see your pics!

be vewie, vewie quiet...woody is just waking up from a long winter's nap and because of the new hoops is confident that he reigns with 'most favored status'...he is also wondering if the yellow could be removed for more of a true gold hue and the purple dressed up with a little more of a reddish tone

fellow stokers of the blog/blog police...

i have to admit...
...there was a moment this weekend...
one of those ah-ha moments on the bike--
that has caused me to clean house a little.
i have always a captain
the view over my shoulder must be pretty good.
...and that maybe like the ideal life in God...
we make a pretty good window
when we live life fully alive, engaged and cranking out the miles.
i have realized through the eyes of my stoker
that i don't make a very good window
and indeed the view that i thought must be so good
is really what you might get
when you attend an event with an obstructed view.
consequently, i thought thinning out my posts a bit
might be a welcome change to the blog...
...but it seems more in retrospect like i've dabbled in
a sometimes seen and seldom described malady
otherwise known as 'the binge and purge stage'
of blogger bulemia...
i have been cured today with a nice fixed ride to the bucksnort
with some very welcomed company on the journey!
i decided to keep my camera in my pocket and just enjoy the ride--
but once again in retrospect--
...the ride was so good
it really should have been shared a little more fully...
i realized that if i can't take a picture with a camera phone
''to do it justice" as it were...
that's maybe the whole point.
...and now isn't the time to just quit trying...
but maybe is just the right time to quit taking myself so seriously.
...your friendly, neighborhood

A plea to the editor...

Dear Sir/Madam,

3. - Recently, more than 24 hours have gone by without a post.

We ask that you please take corrective action immediately, to avoid any further disruption to your faithful readers.

A Math Problem

Daughter getting married in 5 days. Rode bike 25 miles yesterday. Ate 3 brownies. If the diameter of the rear wheel of my bike is 28 inches and the temperature outside is 60 degrees, can we isolate the variables and figure out how many miles I need to bike today in order to keep sanity levels to zero?????

Winds look Tough today but....

I think if we stick together, we can make it out there.
Winds look to be out of the NW, ranging from Zero to 4mph, gusts up to 5mph.
I'm gonna need someone's wheel.

Best Ride of the Season!

Jane was gone and I was grumpy over not riding on a perfect day.
Then Emma said she wanted to ride to McD's so...
4 miles - "on the trail" - for ice cream

Best ride of 2010 so far! I forgot how much fun a 4-miler can be.
I think she will be ready for TDK soon.

I love nursing home rounds and riding fixed in street clothes!

--Gets you out to see the world--
and occasionally covered in mud!
wearing a stethoscope gets me passed by cars and trucks with
at least 6' more clearance at greatly reduced speeds!
let me know if you wanna borrow one just to check the theory...

We bike so we can eat more birthday cake

Beautiful day for a birthday ride!

Happy Birthday Jeff!

"Two are better than one because of the greater work that is done. If one falls down, his friend can help him up but pity the one who falls and has no one to help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Thanks for all the times you've picked me up when I've fallen down.....either on the bike or on the road of life.
You are my tailwind!!

Need We Say More?

Another First for Me 'n Buzz

The seat fell off.
Well, not actually off, but down and back and un-rideable.
I pedalled standing, from Smith's Bay back to Expedition Co.
For me, that was epic.

I knew I had seen those colors before...

Neon Kleins from back in the day. Maybe your Llew is "Retro?"

Custom tool roll for llew!

It's in the mail! My friend joe special ordered yellow fabric and put this together as a custom tool roll this week! Isn't that a beauty?

This would class up Hogsback a little!

For the bargain price of 35K (which includes shipping and frame pump) you can own this custom Colnago Ferrari tandem MTB. Since someone has to sit in back and not be the Captain, Jane and I are out. So I thought another couple might want to jump on it before it sells. At that price, it can't last long.
PS - If you are solo shopping the road rig is only 25k!
